10 Endangered Brands

by Lex Lexington

From Consumerist, here are ten brands that might leave us in 2012. Would you miss any these?
1. Sony Pictures (Karate Kid, Spider-Man)
2. A&W Restaurant (loved it in junior high at the Stamford Town Center)
3. Saab (almost bought a used one at CarMax a few years ago)
4. American Apparel (all my Shirt Woots are printed on their tees)
5. Sears (just bought some shelves for the garage here)
6. Sony Ericsson (had a pre-smart phone phone I really liked)
7. Kellogg's Corn Pops (been eating these tasty nuggets since they were Sugar Pops)
-Can we think back to a more innocent time when it was acceptable to have the word "sugar" in the name of a kid's food?
8. MySpace (but will recent sale rescue it?)
9. Soap Opera Digest (there are no soaps anymore)
10. Nokia (I always wanted one of their tiny, sleek candy bar phones, but they've lagged behind the smart phone revolution.)

So go out and snatch some of these up before they go the way of the Mr. Pibb and Hydrox cookie.

Make It Stop!

I enjoyed this meme in the beginning.

But it has to stop now.

Seriously.

N'Awlins Celebrates the Saints!

I saw this great video of the post-Super Bowl victory (from Deadspin). Very fun, considering the last time the world saw the city.

Sarah Palin Announces Resignation as Governor of Alaska

Gov. Palin, Sen. McCain's running mate on the 2008 Republican presidential ticket, has announced her intention to step down. There is a ton of speculation on why, but there seems to be no consensus yet (Slate, The Daily Beast, Bill Kristol). If she's resigning to get a jump start on the next presidential campaign, I think that's a risky strategy.

I think the video's worth watching. It's sort of odd. She seems a little rushed, or just nervous (which seems normal for public speaking, but she's given polished speeches before). She even takes a shot at fat cat lame-duck governors who travel around their states.

McCain Ad Placement

by Ken Kensington

After avoiding it for the entire campaign, I decided to check out Obama Girl on You Tube on the eve of Election Day.  I watched a couple of videos (a mildly funny take on robo-calls and one that just seemed like an ad) before stumbling on an Obama Girl/Ralph Nadar video.  I thought it was hilarious, but only because it was Ralph Nadar and Obama Girl.  At one point, Nadar makes a dig on McCain's (self-professed) lack of tech savvy, which is made more humorous by the video ad running on the web page when I viewed it.

In case you're curious, here's the video:

Amazon's Cool, New WindowShop

by Lance Lancington

I just saw this on Gizmodo:

Amazon has a new feature. A visual browsing method that strikes me as a mash up of Amazon, CoverFlow and cooliris.

Right now it looks like it displays bestselling and newly released albums, books, movies and video games -- when you zoom in, it plays a preview.

It's called WindowShop.
